Few tips for traveling with excess baggage

Often the travelers have to face a number of hassles and the plight of paying extra for baggage which exceeds the permissible limits set by their airline is a common issue that people usually face at one time or another. Sometimes the situation can be handled easily by eliminating the less useful stuff. However, at times it can become difficult to avoid, especially when you are returning from a holiday with a bagful of souvenirs for your loved ones or traveling with kids, as you have to pack extra clothes and toys for their convenience. Whatever the reason might be, you can avoid this dilemma if you are traveling with excess baggage. Some of the tips are mentioned below to make your travel experience less stressful:

In case you think that your baggage might be more than the weight limit, then try and look for bags which are light in weight. Such bags are made from material which does not have much weight but it is still strong enough to keep your stuff safe. While you can not reduce the weight of your clothes or other essential items, using a light weight bag will help to cut down the total baggage weight to some extent.

Some airlines allow their passengers to carry an extra handbag or laptop bag apart from the hand baggage. This is a good option for you, as you can put heavy items in the hand baggage, while making good use of the laptop bag by putting some items in that as well. However, try not to fill it too much otherwise it can become a problem, in case it does not fit in the overhead compartment.

Checking in early can save you from a lot of hassle at the airport, which is many times caused due to excess baggage. In case your luggage is found to be more than the allowed limit, then you will have enough time to call a friend who can take the extra items back or you can look for someone on the flight who will be ready to check-in your extra baggage.

If you cannot leave the extra baggage behind, then you can upgrade the flight. The business class passengers are allowed to carry more amounts of luggage, than what is allowed to passengers traveling in economy class. You will be required to pay extra for upgrading, but it will serve the purpose, as you will get more weight limit which will probably be enough to accommodate your excess baggage.

The permissible weight limit varies from one airline to another. Therefore it is helpful to confirm with your airline regarding the allowed weight limit. it will not only help to avoid any inconvenience at the check-in counter but will also save you from paying extra to get your excess baggage on the flight. Whether you travel frequently or are planning the first airplane journey of your life, the above mentioned tips will definitely help to make your trip more enjoyable and hassle free.

The Highlands Is More Than Just Grass

The Highlands are a historic region of mountains and rivers that stretch across most of Scotland. They’re extremely remote, fairly isolated and pretty wild, really. When it comes to the Highlands -nature rules. Most of the towns and villages here are very far apart and generally speaking, the area is only sparsely populated, says VisitScotland.com. Don’t be put off by the rugged nature of Scotland’s most beautiful region, though – it is absolute heaven for anybody who likes their getaways to be quiet, peaceful and relaxing. It’s also a godsend for daredevils who can’t think of anything better than racing up mountain sides or plunging into ice cold lochs.

The Highlands are so much more than just hillsides. They’re a vibrant and exciting place, totally unique in many ways. It takes a bold spirit and a hearty sense of adventure to conquer the Highlands but if you can manage it, the rewards will be greater than you could ever have guessed. Here are just a few of the reasons why you should make the Scottish Highlands your next holiday destination.

Loch Ness

No Highlands guide would be complete without a nod to Nessie. The 20 mile long, 700 foot deep Loch Ness offers countless opportunities for fishing, hiking, golfing, walking, kayaking and para-gliding. You name it, it’s here. There are even daily cruises across the Loch for those interested in catching a little glimpse of Nessie herself. The Urquhart Castle is also nearby if you fancy stepping into a 1,000 years worth of history, says Wales Online expert Helen Turner.

The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms National Park is home to not one but three of Scotland’s five ski resorts. They are the Lecht, the Glenshee and the Cairngorm and they cater to all levels of expertise. So, if you fancy trying your hand on the slopes during your Scottish break – why not hop over to the Cairngorms and practice on the pistes? If you already know a thing or two, scale the mountain and show them how it’s done. There are several ski courses available for beginners and intermediates who want to hone their skills.

The Isle Of Skye

During your visit to the Highlands, you’re not going to want to miss out on a trip to the breathtakingly beautiful Isle Of Skye. It is the largest island in the Inner Hebrides region of Scotland and it is home to some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the entire country. In order to get to the Isle Of Skye you’ll have to get in your car hop and on the ferry which takes tourists across to the island on a regular basis throughout the day. The journey is very quick and most certainly worth the couple of pounds it costs to hitch a ride on the ferry.

Walking & Mountain Biking

There are many, many different routes for keen walkers and mountain bikers to take in this region – Randolph’s Leap and the Nairn to Cawdor walk are just a couple of good examples. Loch Insch provides some great mountain bike trails, as does the Cairngorm National Park, Speyside Way and Spey Valley Forest. Furthermore, there are lots of small mountain bike guide huts and centres along the routes that offer help and advice to those looking to tackle particular trails. You an also hire mountain bikes from most of these establishments. As long as you’re careful and well prepared, a long hike or mountain bike ride in the Highlands can be an unforgettable experience.
